8 Advices for Beginners in 3D Printing

 I was having a conversation with one of the group experts in our community, Ondrej Novotný, talking about the overall using experience of resin 3D printing, and the difficulties that people often run into. 

    Being an experienced 3D printing user himself, he understands that beginners may find it a bit challenging at the outset, and able to provide some advices that can help them to improve their 3D printing skill, without scurry aimlessly.

My advice to beginners is to take their time, follow best practices, and seek advice from the 3D printing community. With patience and persistence, their experience with resin 3D printing is likely to improve over time.

1. Read the Manual: 

    Start by thoroughly reading the user manual and documentation that comes with your resin 3D printer. Understand its specifications, capabilities, and safety guidelines.

2. Slicing Software: 

    Familiarize yourself with the slicing software you'll be using to prepare your 3D models for printing. Learn how to adjust settings for different prints.


▲ Slicing Software developers often provide detailed explanation for each parameters that you can adjust in their software. Carefully read these documentations can help you learn how to control your 3D printer. 


3. Resin Handling:

    Handle the resin with care. Understand the type of resin you're using, its requirements, and safety precautions. Wear appropriate protective gear, like gloves and safety glasses, face respirator.

4. Calibration:

    Pay close attention to calibration instructions. Properly level the build platform and ensure the printer is correctly calibrated for the specific resin you're using.

5. Support Structures:

    Learn how to add and configure support structures in your slicing software. Adequate supports are crucial for successful prints.

6.Ventilation:

    Work in a well-ventilated area or use a dedicated ventilation system when working with resin, as some resins emit fumes.

7. Clean-up:

    Have cleaning supplies like isopropyl alcohol, paper towels, and containers ready for post-processing clean up.

8. Patience:

    Understand that resin 3D printing can be a trial-and-error process. Be patient with yourself and the technology. Learn from your mistakes and take your time.


    3D printing is a skill that will develop overtime when one become more and more experienced on it. That means one has to actively learn from the fails and using observation to figure out how should they fix the problem and make things work. With careful calibration, proper handling, and attention to detail, many of common issues such as failed prints, layer separation, and resin spillage can be resolved.

Sonic Mega 8K has the largest printing volume of Phrozen's Sonic 3D printer line-up by the time of writing this article. A Simple Tip to Increase the Surface Quality of Prints

 The quality of surfaces of resin 3D  prints varies as it is affected by lots of factors, one of them is the model orientation when preparing the model. Orienting the model, especially for those which has sudden increase or decrease area of cross section, can increase the quality of the model's surface, by minimize the difference between those area of cross sections.
