One of the biggest trend in Phrozen community this year is Aqua 8K Gray + Onyx Impact Plus resin mixture. Since people found out that mix a bit of Impact Plus into the community favoured Aqua 8K resin, can provide the model with exceptionally great durability while maintain the detail achieved by the Aqua 8K, it has become many people's go-to resin mixture for printing tabletop miniatures.
Brian Gordon in Phrozen 3D Printer Group on Facebook opened up a thread talking about his experiment with 60% Aqua 8K Gray + 40% Onyx Impact Plus mix, and having one of the user, Luther, who is known for advocating this ratio of resin mixture joined the discussion, sharing their settings with other members in the community.
▲ The result from Brian's setting that uses calculation of exposure time applied by the ratio as a starting point which works right away for him. |
Brian explains that he calculates the exposure time using the average exposure time of each resin, add them up with the ratio applied, which gives him a good starting point that worked for him right out of the gate. Luther later then shared his settings, which he puts efforts into the dialling process, seeking for the best performance in terms of detail preservation and dimension accuracy, when he first experimenting this mix ratio few months ago, and comes out with the result of dimensionally accurate down to 0.01mm.
▲ The result from Luther's setting which has being dialled in for the dimensional accuracy has the tolerance down to 0.01mm. |
(Learn about how to dial in your resin using the same testing tool that Luther's using for dimensional accuracy check, read this blog post.)
From here I will represent the settings that Brian and Luther has been using when they're experimenting the Aqua 8K Gray + Onyx Impact Plus mixture resin. Please mind that the results might differ from theirs, as the settings are dialled in per printer and the working environment.
Printer: Sonic Mini 8K S
Layer Height: 0.02 mm
Bottom Layer Count: 6
Normal Layer Exposure Time: 4 s
Bottom Layer Exposure Time: 38 s
Transition Layer Count: 6
Transition Type: Linear
Transition Time Decrement: 4.860 s*
Waiting Mode During Printing: Resting Time
Rest Time Before Lift: 0 s
Rest Time After Lift: 0 s
Rest Time After Retract: 4 s
Bottom Layer Lift Distance: 3 + 4 mm
Normal Layer Lift Distance: 3 + 4 mm
Bottom Layer Retract Distance: 5 + 2 mm**
Normal Layer Retract Distance: 5 + 2 mm**
Bottom Layer Lifting Speed: 40 & 300 mm/min
Normal Layer Lifting Speed: 40 & 300 mm/min
Bottom Layer Retract Speed: 180 & 60 mm/min
Normal Layer Retract Speed: 180 & 60 mm/min
*Transition Time Decrement should be set automatically according to the both exposure time for normal and bottom layer, and the layer count of bottom and transition layer. If not, please insert the number provided above.
**The retract distance for both normal layer and bottom layer should be set automatically as the same of their lifting speed. If not, please insert the number provided above.
▲ Brian later tests out the setting from Luther, and it turns out to be very accurate dimensionally. |
Thanks to Brian and Luther for sharing their experience and settings with our community.
