[EternaL Tough] [Mighty 8K] Chiang's Water Bear with 0.03mm Layer Height

One of our community members from Taiwanese group Shang-Feng Chiang posts his result of printed out a water bear (tardigrade) model with 0.03mm layer height using his Phrozen Sonic Mighty 8K, which comes out as a great result.      The 0.03mm setting combine with the 8K resolution of his Mighty 8K, preserves the detail of the textures on the model's surfaces. This 10cm models took him 12 hours to print, due to his rather  conservative plate moving setting.     The resin he's using is from a local workshop here in Taiwan, which is not available around the globe. According to Chiang, this resin has similar characteristic compared to the Phrozen Aqua Gray 8K resin, but more watery which explained the higher exposure time.     I would recommend people who would like to try this 0.03mm layer height setting with Phrozen Aqua 8K series resin, to simply replace the exposure time for both normal layers and bottom layers with the exposure time that has been...

Should You Print Directly On the Build Plate?

In the world of resin 3D printing, there is an ongoing debate about whether it is better to print directly on the build plate or use supports. This topic recently sparked a lively discussion in our Facebook group and subreddit, with members sharing their experiences, preferences, and concerns. In this article, we will delve into the different perspectives presented in the conversation and explore the pros and cons of printing directly on the build plate.  ▲ Sometimes people need to print stuff directly on the build plate for various reason. Credit. The Importance of Model Orientation:      One key point is that, the ideal orientation for printing a model is not always the one allowed by printing flat on the bed. Depending on the complexity and geometry of the model, it may be more efficient to use supports to achieve the desired outcome. This is particularly true when dealing with intricate designs or models with overhangs. ▲ Proper orientation and good supports can ...

Peachy Turns 6 Months Old! 🍑

Last time, we've introduced a stray dog named Peachy, which had her fortune to have one of the volunteer Wong, from the local stray rescue and adoption group in Hualian, Taiwan, to made a 3D printed prosthetic for her congenital amputation, who is also a member of Phrozen's Taiwanese group on Facebook.     After 3 months, Peachy has become 6 months old and has already adopt to the prosthetic Wong has made for her. And she has also become heavier, more stronger then before, which means Wong have to adjust the design of the tailored prosthetic to better fit her current state.      Wong has also tried out some new material making the prosthetic. Despite other kinds of resin has stronger, more durable result compared to the Phrozen Rock-Black Stiff he's originally used, Rock-Black for its easy to print, high dimensional accuracy, is still the choice for him to do the fast proto...

A Simple Tip to Increase the Surface Quality of Prints

The quality of surfaces of resin 3D  prints varies as it is affected by lots of factors, one of them is the model orientation when preparing the model. Orienting the model, especially for those which has sudden increase or decrease area of cross section, can increase the quality of the model's surface, by minimize the difference between those area of cross sections. This way can also help stabilize the plate-shaped model, spreading out the forces from a single direction to the whole model, decreasing the chance of deformation. ▲ Layer line is a common thing happened on resin 3D prints. This surface annoying many people who pursuit details and perfection. /Evaty Yu     The common way is to orienting the model by 45 degree and see if the result is satisfactory. Sometimes it did work but just doesn't quite there. In this stage most people will simply do the post processing and sand the surface to eliminate those imperfections, but some people would rather adjust and ex...

[Aqua 8K] [Mighty 12K] Brian's Printing Setting for 12K Upgrade Kit with ACF Film

Brian Gordon recently purchased the 12K Upgrade Kit for his Sonic Mighty 8K Printer and did a series of tests and calibrations to see how well the new 12K LCD will holds up compared to the original 8K LCD.     To be able to see the true performance of the 12K LCD, Brian had to first dial in the Aqua Gray 8K resin that he choose, with the ACF film comes with the Upgrade Kit.  And the final he got is a successful print of Cones of Calibration and a good result of 3DRS Starship Calibration test.     He also gave a full review for his 12K Upgrade Kit in the Phrozen 3D Printer Group on Facebook, which you can read it here:  https://www.facebook.com/groups/Phrozen3DPENG/posts/2497617153736770/     Here is his result and settings. The Principle Behind Fast Resin 3D Printing

TL;DR:  There are several things you should look into when try to shorten your printing time. Before you start to adjust the speed of the setting, find a stable setting as your starting point. Understand your equipment and the material you are using. Choose a resin that requires lower exposing time with low viscosity, and install a releasing film that is not sticky to the cured resin.  Fast printing is a result of the combination of right setting for right tools, experimenting with the setting to optimize it is necessary. Expect to spend time on this process.      Printing fast has becoming a trending topic in Phrozen community recently. After Phrozen released a video promoting their ACF film, with the printer applied with the ACF film ended up prints 6x faster then the other one shown in the demonstration video, people are hyped about this idea. ...

[Red Clay] [Mini 8K] Sean's 1/48 "Ball and Chain" Armour

Sean Brzozowski is working on a resin kit of the Merkava III Israel battle tank at a scale of 1/48. He's discovered that using his Phrozen Sonic Mini 8K printer with Aqua Red Clay 8K resin is the way to go for crafting the "ball and chain" armour, and will later attaching it to the back of its turret.     Surprisingly, the settings he is using for printing this tiny object does not requires particularly slow moving speed of the plate, and he also does not hesitate to have the supports thicker and bulker than the object that his is printing. "N o magic, just good tools and patience" he said.      Here is his result and settings. For those who is trying to print Phrozen's Aqua Red Clay 8K with Sonic Mini 8K should give it a try. ▲ The printed out 1/48 "ball and chain" armour. How to Create Your Own Resin Profile

Getting your resin settings right is crucial to achieving a successful print. This is particularly important for those who are aiming for the utmost detail and precision. However, it's often the case that companies only provide resin profiles for their own products—or sometimes they don't provide them at all.      For newcomers to the scene, it can be quite frustrating to spend the majority of their time fine-tuning settings. Moreover, what works perfectly on one printer might not produce the same results on another. This discrepancy arises from the variations inherent to different devices, which shows the necessity to tailor resin settings accordingly.      With that in mind, let's delve into the experience shared by Derek Jackson from J3DTech, also a Phrozen community member. He gives us some insight into the process of refining resin settings. Here's my take on the information: To dial in a resin, there are two ...
